Complete guide on employee turnover and how to calculate it
Employee turnover is the rate at which employees leave an organization during a specific period. It measures how often employees leave the company and are replaced by new hires. High turnover can indicate organizational issues such as low job satisfaction, poor management, or uncompetitive compensation.
High employee turnover can significantly impact productivity, recruitment and training costs, team morale, and operational continuity. Monitoring and managing turnover is key to retaining top talent and reducing HR operational costs.
Turnover Rate = (Employees Left ÷ Average Employees) × 100
Average employees is calculated as (Starting Employees + Ending Employees) ÷ 2. For periods less than 12 months, the turnover rate is annualized to provide a more accurate yearly projection.
